The Democratic People's Republic of Torbia (North Torbia) maintains an oversized military for its population. The Torbian People’s Army (TPA) controls the ground, air, and naval forces in the DPRT and is one of the most militarized countries in the world with over one million active duty military personnel and over seven million reservists. Most of the military is located along the border with the Republic of Torbia (South Torbia) as North Torbia's stated intent is to unify the country under DPRT control. The TPA contains both land, air, and naval forces with the ground forces reigning supreme between the services. The air an naval forces primarily support the ground forces and special purpose forces (SPF). The TPA maintains underground defensive positions along the border with South Torbia.

The Torbian People’s Army (TPA) controls the ground, air, and naval forces in the DPRT and is one of the most militarized countries in the world with approximately half a million active duty military personnel and over two million reservists. North Torbia’s economy is one of the most closed and centrally planned economies in the world. Despite its initial potential for strong economy following the split of the two Torbias, the recent economic situation in the nation is dire. Despite having a large workforce and an abundance of natural resources, decades of neglect and systemic corruption, combined with the effects of ever-expanding international sanctions, have resulted in North Torbia being a poverty-stricken nation reliant on international aid.

North Torbia has centered its national identity on the Torbian language, ethnicity, culture, and beliefs. Life essentially revolves around family and the cult of personality surrounding the nation's leader. This is melded with an overall sense of fear--either of suppression and subjugation by the North Torbian government or of the existential threats posed by South Torbia and the western world.

The Democratic People’s Republic of Torbia, also known as North Torbia, is a repressive information environment, with the government controlling all important information environment elements. The Democratic People’s Republic of Torbia is very adept at information control, utilizing programs that have been in place for years to monitor and direct communications. In addition, the Democratic People’s Republic of Torbia’s INFOWAR capability is extremely capable, with areas of excellence in select disciplines.

North Torbia’s government has created an extremely repressive information environment. As part of its efforts to maintain control of its population, the government controls nearly every facet of the information environment. The police-state mentality has penetrated the population to such a degree, that it is almost unheard of for non-government controlled information to be shared within the population, and thanks to the cult of personality around its leaders, most other sources are viewed as untrustworthy. While the population within North Torbia may lack access to modern information and communication technology, North Torbia’s government controls a sophisticated and extremely capable INFOWAR and Cyber capability that it uses against external opposition and adversarial governments.

The infrastructure of the DPRT is old, dilapidated, and in need of repair and upgrades. Due to the secretive and isolationist policies of the DPRTs totalitarian state, resources and aid needed to maintain roads, electrical grids, bridges and damns, etc. is not available. Economic sanctions placed on the DPRT have also strained the already weakened economy. The small amount of aid that does reach the DPRT is diverted to the military and the ruling class at the expense of the rest of the country. The Pacific countries that possess hydrocarbon resources will continue to depend on the hydrocarbon industries to drive their economies, while those that do not possess such resources will attempt to tie themselves to hydrocarbon-rich nations. The DPRT faces geopolitical difficulties in exporting any products due to international sanctions. Bordered by its key adversary, South Torbia, the DPRT must rely on tenuous routes to export its resources. South Torbia continues to view transshipment of hydrocarbon products or providing other services to oil-wealthy countries their primary short- to medium-term means to achieve economic development. South Torbia and Gabal continue to recover from a collapse two decades ago that crippled their economies. All nations of the Pacific have relatively high inefficiency due to corruption, government involvement in the economy, and/or lack of export industry development.

North Torbia is a small country located in an archipelago in the western Pacific Ocean. It borders its primary regional opponent, namely South Torbia, which is the only country with land access to the nation. The country’s terrain varies from high, forested, rugged mountains to flat lowland plains used for agricultural pursuits; the former create an obstacle for regional communication and make transport difficult. Both vegetation and climate are tropical in nature. Troops must deal with extreme temperatures and humidity throughout the lowlands, and high altitudes in the mountains. Frequent rains will hamper operations and maneuverability, as will seasonal cloud cover. Multiple natural hazards exist, such as typhoons and landslides, that can complicate missions.

Political

The Democratic People’s Republic of Torbia (DPRT) is a single-party, despotic state that occupies the northern half of the Island of Torbia. It is self-described as a “self-reliant socialist republic”, but its structure is deeply totalitarian, wholly reliant upon the maintenance and continuation of a cult-of personality and militarism for survival.

Military

North Torbia’s military has played a significant domestic role in shaping the nation. As the government’s largest asset, it touches nearly every aspect of life within North Torbia. The Torbian People’s Army (TPA) controls the ground, air, and naval forces in the DPRT and is one of the most militarized countries in the world with approximately half a million active duty military personnel and over two million reservists. Most of the military is located along the border with the Republic of Torbia (South Torbia) as North Torbia's stated intent is to unify the country under DPRT control. North Torbia often looks toward Olvana to provide support for naval and amphibious operations.

Economic

North Torbia’s economy is one of the most closed and centrally planned economies in the world. Despite its initial potential for strong economy following the split of the two Torbias, the recent economic situation in the nation is dire. Despite having a large workforce and an abundance of natural resources, decades of neglect and systemic corruption, combined with the effects of ever-expanding international sanctions, have resulted in North Torbia being a poverty-stricken nation reliant on international aid.

Social

Main article: Social: North Torbia

North Torbia has centered its national identity on the Torbian language, ethnicity, culture, and beliefs. Life essentially revolves around family and the cult of personality surrounding the nation's leader. This is melded with an overall sense of fear--either of suppression and subjugation by the North Torbian government or of the existential threats posed by South Torbia and the western world.

Information

Infrastructure

The infrastructure of North Torbia is old, dilapidated, and in need of repair and upgrade. Due to international sanctions and its own isolationist policies, the resources and aid needed to maintain roads, electrical grids, bridges, dams, etc., is largely unavailable. The small amount of aid that reaches North Torbia is diverted to the military and the ruling class at the expense of the rest of the country. Baguio City’s infrastructure is well-maintained when compared to the rest of the country, however it is still dated.

Physical Environment

North Torbia is a small country located in an archipelago in the western Pacific Ocean. It borders its primary regional opponent, namely South Torbia, which is the only country with land access to the nation. The country’s terrain varies from high, forested, rugged mountains to flat lowland plains used for agricultural pursuits; the former create an obstacle for regional communication and complicate travel throughout the country. Both vegetation and climate are tropical in nature.

Time

Main article: Time: North Torbia

Time in North Torbia is treated significantly differently than other countries.  Simply put, time in North Torbia is rigid and strict; much like the leadership of the country.  One does not arrive late for anything, whether that be a business meeting or catching a bus.  North Torbia currently sits within its own Time Zone after it decided to return to its historical zone of GMT + 8.5 to commemorate the anniversary of their ‘liberation,” while South Torbia currently sits at GMT +9.0.
