Modern Olvana emerged in the early 20th century from the ashes of nearly three millennia of imperial dynastic rule. Following a turbulent and highly destructive 19th century, the Republic of Olvana was declared in 1912 and consolidated over the next two decades. However, the Republic was beset early in its life by two powerful but opposing forces - Communists and imperialists from both Europe and Asia. Following yet another period of destructive wars through the mid 20th-century, the Republic was severely weakened both financially and militarily.
