Conditions

The detachment or brigade tactical group (BTG) is conducting operations independently or as part of a larger force and receives an operation order (OPORD) or fragmentary order (FRAGORD) to conduct an assault at the location and time specified. The order includes all applicable overlays and or graphics. The DET/BTG has communications with higher, adjacent, subordinate, and supporting elements. Coalition forces, noncombatants, government agencies, nongovernment organizations, and local and international media may be in the operational environment (OE). Some iterations of this task should be performed in MOPP 4. This task should be trained under IED Threat conditions.

Standards

The DET/BTG conducts the assault in accordance with (IAW) TC 7-100.2 and/or TC 7-100.3, the order, and/or higher commander's guidance. The DET/BTG gains and maintains contact with the enemy force. The DET/BTG renders the enemy force combat ineffective and occupies any position required by the order.

NOTE

TADSS and Materiel Items quantities are based on an armor company headquarters with two armor platoons, one IFV platoon and one dismounted infantry platoon to replicate non-conventional threat. Adjust as needed based on the force size and type of unit used to replicate the OPFOR

NOTE

The Objective Task Evaluation Criteria Matrix is provided for reference only. Operational and Training Environments will be IAW the BLUFOR Commanders training plan and guidance.

NOTE

Access the Virtual OPFOR Academy at https://tbr.army.mil for electronic copies of OPFOR doctrine, references, Decisive Action Training Environment (DATE), and instructional and immersive videos on conducting this task.

Performance Steps and Measures

NOTE: Assess task proficiency using the task evaluation criteria matrix.

NOTE: Asterisks (*) indicate leader steps; plus signs (+) indicate critical steps.

STEP/MEASURE GO NO-GO N/A
Plan
+ 1. 0.1 Plan
+ a. Determine functions that need to be performed to achieve mission success (action, enabling, supporting).
+ b. Determine what enemy forces need to be deceived and how.
+ c. Determine what enemy forces need to be fixed and how.
+ d. Determine what enemy forces need to be destroyed and how.
+ e. Determine what enemy forces need to be disrupted and how.
+ f. Determine critical information requirements and how they will be obtained.
+ g. Organize forces into elements by function. Types of elements can be found in TC 7-100.2/TC7- 100.3.
Note: Types of elements can be found in TC 7-100.2/TC7-100.3.
Prepare
+ 2. 0.2 Prepare
+ a. Execute continuous Reconnaissance to provide critical information required for success.
+ b. Execute continuous Counter-reconnaissance to prevent enemy from obtaining critical information.
+ c. Conduct rehearsals.
+ d. Execute Information Warfare.
Execute
+ 3. 1.1 Isolate
+ a. Maneuver and deploy security element(s) to ensure additional enemy forces do not join the battle in a way that forces the action to culminate before mission accomplishment. (Security elements may become fixing elements.)
Note: Security elements may become fixing elements.
+ b. Security elements maneuver to a position (or positions) where they can deny the enemy freedom of movement along any ground or air avenues of approach that can reinforce the objective or interfere with the mission of the assault element.
+ c. Security elements are equipped and organized such that they can detect enemy forces and prevent them from contacting the rest of the detachment.
+ d. Security elements normally are assigned a screen, guard, or cover task, but may also be called upon to perform other tactical tasks in support of their purpose, to include: Ambush, Block, Canalize, Contain, Delay, Destroy, Disrupt, Fix, Interdict, and Isolate.
Note: Other tactical tasks security elements may conduct include: Ambush, Block, Canalize, Contain, Delay, Destroy, Disrupt, Fix, Interdict, and

Isolate.

+ e. Security elements provide early warning, prevent the enemy from gaining further information and prevent enemy maneuver.
+ 4. 1.2 Suppress
+ a. Provide lethal and nonlethal suppression.
+ b. Suppress the enemy force to permit the assault element to move against the enemy position without receiving destructive fire.
+ 5. 1.3 Assault
+ a. From the direction where least return fire is possible, the assault element employs surprise, limited visibility, complex terrain, and camouflage, concealment, cover, and deception (C3D) to attain the enemy position while remaining combat effective.
+ b. Enabling elements conduct actions to permit the assault element to complete the action. These may include: deception, breaching, fixing, disruption, reserve elements.
+ c. Alter organization and tasks by function to ensure mission success in changing conditions.
+ d. Maneuver to and seize the enemy position, destroying any forces there.
Note: The assault element can conduct attack by fire, but this is not an optimal methodology and should only be used when necessary. Typical tactical tasks expected of the assault element are:

- Clear

- Destroy

- Occupy

- Secure

- Seize.

Assess
+ 6. Performance Measures
+ a. Unit isolates enemy from assistance - (Yes/No)
+ b. To suppress enemy - (Time)
+ c. To execute assault - (Time)
+ d. Enemy position seized - (Yes/No)
+ e. Friendly forces available to continue mission - (Percent)
+ f. Combat effectiveness of enemy forces - (Percent)

Environment

Environmental protection is not just the law but the right thing to do. It is a continual process and starts with deliberate planning. Always be alert to ways to protect our environment during training and missions. In doing so, you will contribute to the sustainment of our training resources while protecting people and the environment from harmful effects. Refer to the current Environmental Considerations manual and the current GTA Environmental-related Risk Assessment card. Consult range control office for specific environmental considerations for the training area(s) being used.

Safety

In a training environment, leaders must perform a risk assessment in accordance with ATP 5-19, Risk Management. Leaders will complete the current Deliberate Risk Assessment Worksheet in accordance with the TRADOC Safety Officer during the planning and completion of each task and sub-task by assessing mission, enemy, terrain and weather, troops and support available-time available and civil considerations, (METT-TC). Note: During MOPP training, leaders must ensure personnel are monitored for potential heat injury. Local policies and procedures must be followed during times of increased heat category in order to avoid heat related injury. Consider the MOPP work/rest cycles and water replacement guidelines IAW FM

3-11.4, Multiservice Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical (NBC) Protection, FM 3-11.5, Multiservice Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Decontamination.
