notes"The 9P162 Kornet-T is a new anti-tank missile carrier. It is armed with Kornet anti-tank guided missiles. It is intended to replace the aging Shturm-S (based on the MT-LB tracked armored vehicle) and 9P148 (based on the BRDM-2 armored scout car). First Kornet-T anti-tank missile carriers were delivered in 2003. The first batch of 20 production vehicles was delivered to the Russian Army in 2012. The Kornet-T is based on the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle chassis. It is similar to the Khrizantema, which is also based on the BMP-3 cassis. The Khrizantema entered service with the Russian Army back in 2004. It seems that the Kornet-T will be used by motorized units, while the Khrizantema by artillery units. The Kornet-T can engage tanks, fortifications, and low-flying helicopters. This missile carrier can operate and fire in day/night conditions, in adverse weather conditions, and when the enemy uses countermeasures. This anti-tank missile carrier is fitted with an automatic loader. A total of 16 missiles are carried by the vehicle. 12 missiles are stored in the autoloader and 4 more are stored inside the hull. This missile carrier has two launchers. Both missiles can be launched against the same target. The vehicle can also engage two targets simultaneously. During traveling both launches are retracted inside the hull. The vehicle has a brief deployment time. The Kornet heavy anti-tank guided missile was adopted by the Russian Army back in 1994. From the start, it was developed as a universal missile, which could be fired from various platforms. The Kornet is a fire-and-forget type anti-tank missile. This laser-guided missile has a range of 100 to 5 500 m. The maximum range at night is 3 500 m. Missiles are available with tandem HEAT and thermobaric warheads. A tandem HEAT warhead penetrates up to 1 200 m behind explosive reactive armor. It is sufficient to defeat even the latest main battle tanks. Furthermore, the Kornet-T is capable of launching a salvo of 2 missiles less than a second apart either at a single target. This two-missile salvo is intended to overcome active protection systems. If launched at a single target the first missile triggers the active protection system of a tank, while the second missile hits the target. If the tank lacks active protection system this two-missile salvo improves the probability of the tank's destruction. The Kornet missiles were exported to a number of countries. Kornet-E is a downgraded export version of this missile. It is worth noting that Russia usually sells abroad only downgraded versions of its weaponry. These missiles saw combat in the Middle East in 2003 during the Invasion of Iraq, in 2006 during Lebanon War. It was also used several times by Hamas and Hezbollah fighters against Israeli targets. New Kornet-EM missiles with anti-tank warheads have a range of 8 000 m, while missiles with thermobaric warheads have a range of 10 000 m. New missiles can be launched from all previous Kornet launchers. Kornet Missiles are smaller comparing with those of the Khrizantema. This anti-tank missile carrier is operated by a crew of two, including a gunner and driver. The vehicle has a welded aluminum alloy armor hull. The front arc is made of composite armor. Protection is similar to that of the BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicle. The front arc provides protection against 30-mm armor-piercing rounds. All-round protection is against 14.5-mm armor-piercing rounds. It seems that protection can be enhanced with an add-on explosive reactive armor kit. The Kornet-T is fitted with NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems. This anti-tank missile carrier is powered by a UTD-29 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 500 hp. This vehicle might be also fitted with a modern UTD-32T turbocharged diesel engine, developing 660 hp. This engine is used on improved BMP-3M IFV. This anti-tank missile carrier is fully amphibious. On the water, it is propelled by two waterjets. The vehicle can fire missiles even while afloat. Recently Russia adopted another new anti-tank missile carrier. This is Kornet-D, based on the Tigr light utility vehicle. This vehicle carries two banks with 4 launchers each."
