Amarian People’s Union

From WEG MediaWiki
Amarian People's Union Insigna
The Amarian People’s Union (APU) is the militant wing of the Amarian People’s Party (APP). The APP is a nationalist/nativist political party seeking greater representation in the Amari parliament. The party originally existed as the APU insurgency that rose to power during the turmoil of previous decades, but has changed its name to legitimize its political aspirations. The most radical elements remained in the APU. It is unknown how much coordination exists between the two organizations, but they are reportedly close. The APU has openly espoused violent actions when political desired are unfulfilled. The APU’s members are predominantly hostile and would likely support enemies of Amari.

The APU is responsible for numerous attacks against government facilities and military or police forces. They have also targeted Amari civilians whom they identify as “non-loyal.” The most common attacks include government posts or personnel, machines and power facilities, and civilian crops. Attacks range from simple vandalism and sabotage to guerrilla-style operations and bombings. In more remote areas, they have also conducted extra-judicial proceedings, torture, and executions. The APU can be brutal, particularly when defending what they perceive as their territory. Ambushes and IEDs have been reported.

In rural areas, the APU may more closely resemble a guerrilla or militia force. Urban activities are more typically insurgent. The APU has developed a strong network of Street Committees and Self Defense Units (SDUs), which leverage local gangs and militias. These small elements may conduct low-level attacks or be used to drive otherwise peaceful protests into violent mobs.
