In the past, they were in near constant conflict with other groups over natural grazing grounds and farmland, as rainfall dwindled and water became scarce. They are currently in conflict with Nyumban civilmilitias in central Nyumba and Hizbul al-Harakat elements in the Nyumban western region. Since 2002 they have been one of the main drivers of violence throughout Nyumba. This conflict has pitted the largely nomadic tribes against the sedentary population of the region in a battle over resource and land allocation. Nearly continuous internal and cross-border raids greatly contributed to ethnic and tribal fighting within Nyumba that killed more than 11,000 people between 2002 and the present. Tajammu-linked fighters have been used as mercenaries in conflicts around the world.
The Tajammu at various times have fought both with and in opposition to the Nyumban National Army. Nyumban officials have been accused of using Tajammu-linked elements to conduct brutal anti-insurgency operations against pockets of opposition throughout Nyumba and cross-border raid into Amari.
