Olvana is the only major land power in the DATE Pacific region. It is also the largest and most diverse in all areas of comparison with the other nations. Its large land border to the west, and dominating eastern seaboard has made Olvana historically focus on near threats from western neighbors rather than eastward expansion. Olvanese foreign policy publicly emphasizes cooperation with its island neighbors while striving to maintain dominance in all maritime enterprises, e.g. shipping, fishing, naval. Growing Olvanese economic power and technical prowess is now responsible for worldwide investment and infrastructure projects, especially in the Belesian Archipelago and East Africa. Olvana is also a growing player in United Nations peacekeeping operations. Since the People’s Republic of Olvana (Olvana) is the largest country in terms of size and population in the region and with an intent to serve as the regional hegemon, Olvana maintains the largest military in the Pacific region. The Olvana People’s Army (OPA) is composed of not only a land force, but the Olvana People’s Navy (OPN) and Olvana People’s Air Force (OPAF) are subordinate to the OPA. Olvana attempts to influence the region by the deployment of advisors to various countries and the sale of military weapons to their allies. Today, the Olvanese Communist Party (OCP) seeks to change some traditions while preserving others, such as the family structure and culture of obedience to the state as being integral to society.

Political

Main article: Political: Olvana

Modern Olvana emerged in the early 20th century from the ashes of nearly three millennia of imperial dynastic rule. Following a turbulent and highly destructive 19th century, the Republic of Olvana was declared in 1912 and consolidated over the next two decades.  However, the Republic was beset early in its life by two powerful but opposing forces - Communists and imperialists from both Europe and Asia.  Following yet another period of destructive wars through the mid 20th-century, the Republic was severely weakened both financially and militarily.  Communists intensified their campaign, and, with the help of the Donovia, took control of the Olvanese mainland after a years-long struggle now known as the Olvanese Civil War.  On November 1st, 1951, the People’s Republic of Olvana (PRO) was declared by Olvanese Communist Party (OCP) Chairman Ze Chang, establishing the present-day political body that rules mainland Olvana.

Military

Main article: Military: Olvana

Since the People’s Republic of Olvana (Olvana) is the largest country in terms of size and population in the region and with an intent to serve as the regional hegemon, Olvana maintains the largest military in the Pacific region. The Olvana People’s Army (OPA) is composed of not only a land force, but the Olvana People’s Navy (OPN) and Olvana People’s Air Force (OPAF) are subordinate to the OPA. Olvana attempts to influence the region by the deployment of advisors to various countries and the sale of military weapons to their allies.

Economic

Main article: Economic: Olvana

Over the last half-century, Olvana has gradually reformed agriculture, foreign trade, foreign investments, and liberalization of prices. These reforms, coupled with cheap labor and mass industrialization, allowed Olvana to become a major trading partner with the world. The resultant economic growth raised the country from one of the poorest underdeveloped nations to one of the world’s leading economic superpowers. However, in recent years, Olvana has renewed its support for state-owned enterprises in sectors it considers important to "economic security”, explicitly looking to foster globally competitive national champions. This reversal of policy began with reining in private decision-making capability and purges in the roles of state-owned enterprises under guise of anti-corruption. Significant policy adjustments are required in order for Olvana to sustain its growth. A major factor is that, historically speaking, transitioning from middle-income to high-income status can be more difficult than moving up from low to middle income.

Social

Main article: Social: Olvana

Olvanese culture spans more than 4,500 years. It was shaped by numerous and varied historical schools of thought: the predominant religion of Hinduism, the Upanishads, Yoga Sutras, the Bhakti movement, and Buddhism. Olvana is notable for its religious diversity, with Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Islam, Christianity, and Jainism among the nation’s major religions. For much of the country’s history, families could obtain social advancement by high performance in the prestigious imperial examinations, and a culture of merit remains greatly valued in Olvana today. Some observers see the period following the establishment of the PRO as a continuation of traditional Olvanese dynastic history, while others claim that the Communist Party's rule damaged the foundations of Olvanese culture, thanks to political movements that destroyed many aspects of traditional culture. Today, the Olvanese Communist Party (OCP) seeks to change some traditional aspects such as rural land tenure, sexism, and the Confucian system of education, while preserving others, such as the family structure and culture of obedience to the state as being integral to society.

Information

Main article: Information: Olvana
The People’s Republic of Olvana (PRO) maintains a large information environment, with its internet industries counted among the world’s most active. Olvana is, however, one of the world’s most restrictive media environments. The PRO’s INFOWAR capability is highly developed and world-leading in a number of critical areas.

Olvana’s information warfare (INFOWAR) capability is highly developed. Olvana utilizes the full range of INFOWAR operations to present a credible peer-level threat. Olvana’s INFOWAR is directed towards information detection sources, information channels, and information-processing and decision making systems. The ultimate goal is to gain information superiority against the threat, disrupt the threat’s information control capabilities, and maintain and protect its own information systems and capabilities.

Infrastructure

The Olvana infrastructure is modern and continues to improve as the urbanization continues. Significant emphasis is placed on the modernizing of the infrastructure in the past 20 years. Olvana has a state of the art mass transit system. The Olvanese government continues to subsidize the mass transit system to increase ridership and decrease congestion on the roads and air pollution. Airports range from large international airports that can handle almost any aircraft currently in production to small-unimproved dirt strips. Seaports are modern and can handle all modern cargo vessels. The country recently suffered from high levels of pollution in the urban areas and the government has made policies to combat pollution in urban environments. Air pollution has improved significantly but ground and water pollution are still way above acceptable western levels.

Physical Environment

Olvana is a large country located in eastern Asia that borders three major bodies of water:  the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea, and the South China Sea. The country’s terrain varies from high mountains and green plateaus to river valleys and deltas, with climates ranging from tropical to semiarid to sub-alpine. Multiple natural hazards exits, resulting from Olvana’s geology, weather, native wildlife, and human activity.

Time

Main article: Time: Olvana

Olvanans see time as a precious resource, which is extremely important, as such they frequently apologize for taking up someone's time and will happily conduct many types of business/activity at the same time. They do not accept tardiness and will often arrive 30 minutes prior to an agreed time. Olvana sits within the the Olvanan Time Zone (OTZ) which is seven hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)/Coordinated Universal Time (UTC); they do not observe Daylight Saving Time (DST).

Threat Actor Table

Significant Non-State Threat Actors and Conditions in the Olvana OE, 2025
Group Name Type Country Description
Yellow Sashes Insurgency Olvana The Yellow Sashes are primarily Hindu who detest the Olvana communist government’s repression of religion. The Yellow Sashes are often traditionalists who wish to return the country back to the way it was 150 years ago. The Yellow Sashes want a return to the previous form of government before communism, which was a hereditary monarchy.
Olvana Jemaah Islamiyah Insurgency Olvana The OJI is a Muslim insurgent group that operates primarily in Western Olvana with many of its leaders training in the Middle East. As the OJI becomes stronger, the group continues to push further to the east. The mainline OJI is usually content to slowly convert people to Islam by providing services to the poor rural people that the central Olvana government seems to forget. There are OJI cells that do not feel the conversion process is occurring fast enough, however, and are trying to convert the rural villages by force.
Olvana Christian Party Insurgency Olvana The OCP is not a political party, but a group of Christian missionaries whose mission is to make the lives of rural Olvanians better while converting them. The Olvana central government is not extreme in its denunciation of religion and will generally allow various religions to practice as long as those practicing their faith seek to use it as a means to overturn the current political structure. The OCP is on the cusp of going from a group tolerated by the Olvana government in the northwestern part of the country to one that the communists will seek to destroy.
